Reasons Why Your GATE Application Form can be Rejected?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted every year to shortlist eligible candidates for M.Tech, ME and PhD. Candidates interested in pursuing Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Science programs appear for GATE exam. GATE 2017 is organized by IIT Roorkee.

Many sought after institutes in India and abroad offer admission to students based on their GATE Scores. Validity of GATE Score is of three years, so that applicants can apply in their choice of college for seeking admission.

GATE Application Form will be available online from 1 September,2017 and the last date to submit application form is October 4, 2017.

GATE Application Form fee is INR 750 for women and SC/ST/Pwd category students. While it is INR 1500 for all other candidates. Once the application form fee is submitted it can’t be withdrawn.

The process to submit GATE application form involves Registration, Filling of required details, Uploading important documents and then Paying application fee.

There are few common mistakes to be avoided by the students applying for GATE exam. As due to these errors their application form is subject to rejection.

Tips to remember while filling GATE Application Form

Registration: Students while registering themselves for GATE exam must provide a valid E-Mail address and phone number. As these are the means by which they will be intimated regarding all further processes to fill application form. Also providing a close friends or relatives number will be beneficial for receiving regular updates.

Enrollment: For successful enrollment applicants have to choose a password. While choosing or forming the password keep in mind that a strong password does not include birthdate, easily guessed string of numbers or letters). Keep your password short, easy to remember but at the same time very unique. To login and continue filling application form keep a note of your Login ID and this password.

Photograph Requirements: Candidates should upload a recent, passport size, colored photo only. It should be clicked in a professional studio as mobile clicked snaps are not accepted. Candidate’s face should cover 75% of the picture with a full face looking in the mirror view. Features of face like eyes, forehead, nose, chin should not be covered in any way by hair or cloth. Applicants who usually wear glasses have to make sure that glare of their glasses is not projected in the snap. And only clear glasses are permitted, picture wearing tinted glass can be rejected. Proper flash and proper lighting should be there while clicking of the photograph.

Photograph Dimensions: Format- JPEG, Width and height- 3.5cm x 4.5 cm, Resolution- 0.3 MP, Resize your image using this tool once you scan it.

Signature Specifications: Draw a rectangular box measuring (2cm x 7cm) on a plain white A4 sheet. Signature should be done in black or dark blue ink pen in this rectangular box. Signature has to be done in running handwriting as signature done in capital letters is not permitted. Using professional scanner get a digital image of this signature.

Scanned Signature Dimensions: Maximum and minimum resolution is (160x560) and (80x280)

Thumb Impression Specifications: Draw a rectangular box measuring (3cm x 5cm) on a plain white A4 sheet. Mark your left-hand thumb impression in this box. Only black or blue stamp pad should be used for making thumb imprint. Due to any difficulty if students are unable to provide thumb mark they can provide an imprint of any of their finger too. Then a digital image should be taken using a professional scanner only.

Scanned Thumb Mark Dimensions: Maximum and minimum resolution is (160x560) and (80x280)

Documents Required: Candidates should keep these documents with them while filling application form. As it is mandatory to upload these documents for successful submission of application form

  • Scanned image of your photograph
  • Scanned image of your signature
  • Scanned image of your thumb impression
  • Scanned copy in pdf format of Degree Certificate or mark sheet of previous semester/year (for final year candidates) / Provisional certificate (letter) from the Institute for final year students
  • Scanned copy of Category/PwD Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
  • ID Proof : Only Passport/PAN Card/Voter ID/Aadhaar UID/College ID/Employee ID card
  • Bank details for application fees.
  • ID Proof : Only Passport/Government issued ID/College ID/Employee ID card

GATE Application Form Correction Procedure

Though it is clearly mentioned that candidates cannot edit once submitted GATE Application Form. However minor changes are allowed to be made. Candidates should keep checking the status of their application form to know when they are allowed to make such minor amendments.

Minor mistakes which can be corrected include: Spelling mistake in candidate’s name or parent’s name.  Error in Date of birth, year of qualifying the last degree studied by the candidate.
