7 Ways to Effectively Speed up Your Mac
If you are a Mac owner, you are probably interested in finding out how to speed up your Macbook’s performance. Macs are recognized for their brand - as sleek, modern, minimal, and long-lasting quality computers. And that is completely true - and that is why they are super fast and efficient. But even Macs are not perfect - after a few years of use, you will notice that your Mac has become slower than it was.
And as Mac computers are pretty expensive, people tend to invest in them with an expectation to use these computers for many years. That is why you should start learning how to speed up your Mac instead of purchasing a new one. Luckily, in this article, we are about to share a list of 7 ways that will help you do it effectively.
Way #1: Use Specialized Software
The fastest and most efficient way to speed up your Mac in no time is by using specialized software. Also, you need to understand that mostly a slow Mac issue is caused by low disk space. Therefore, using a high rating software that can remove unneeded apps is a lifesaver.
Way #2: Delete Apps Manually
If you are still not quite sure if you should delete as many apps on your Mac as possible, then there is one metric you should check out to be convinced. First, click on the Apple icon in the left corner on the screen. Then, choose the first option that is called About This Mac, and then choose Storage.
Here, you will be capable of discovering how much of disc space is used up by apps and other types of files. To uninstall an app you no longer need, go to the Launchpad, press the Option key, and choose the apps you want to uninstall.
Way #3: Always Update
If you have an issue of a slow Mac, but you certainly know that your disk space is not full, the problem may be hidden in the software update. If you have not updated the macOS in quite a while, it may slow down your computer.
To update your macOS, you can either click on the System Preferences from your Dock or go to the App Store and click on Updates.
Way #4: Limit Your Startup Items
The apps and other items that launch just as soon as you boot your computer are called startup items. To have a few is okay - especially if you use your Mac for work, and one of those items is, for example, your work calendar with meetings and tasks in it.
But if not - it is highly recommended to trim down the list. The first reason why is that it will take longer to start up your Mac. The second reason is that the apps will continue running in the background. And this will slow down the entire performance of your Mac.
Way #5: Check the Activity Monitor
To check your Activity Monitor, press the Command + Space keys on your Magic Keyboard, and search for Activity Monitor in the Spotlight Search. Once you have it open, you will be able to have a better understanding of how your Mac is currently running.
The most important columns to look at is memory and CPU. Using this information, it will be very easy to determine which of the running apps are using up the most resources. If you are currently not using the app - just Force Quit it.
Way #6: Limit Visual Effects
When you have a new Mac, new visual effects are exciting. But just like with any visual effects, we get used to them and stop noticing them. But even though they no longer excite us, they are still using up valuable resources and slowing down your Mac.
And this is why you should turn the unnecessary visual effects off. To do so, click the Apple icon in the left corner, choose System Preferences, click Dock, and uncheck some of these options: automatically hide and show the Dock, magnification, animate opening application, and set Minimize windows using the Scale Effect.
Way #7: Clean Your Desktop
This tip is very simple yet very useful. What you need to know is that the more thumbnails on your Desktop you will have, the more memory and additional resources your Desktop will use because your Mac recognizes it just like another folder.
Also, when you get rid of all the unnecessary files on your Desktop and entire computer, make sure you empty your Trash Bin. Because even if stored in the Trash Bin folder, these files are still on your computer and still taking up disk space.
