Redmi 4x - Xiaomi Best Budget Smartphone

July 12, 2018

As a college homework helper, I needed to be online most of the time. Of course, I couldn’t stay at my computer all the time. This is why I wanted to get a smartphone that was quick and with a screen large enough for me to easily navigate any web page. Of course, I needed the phone to move fast because I always keep Skype, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Chrome open at the same time. After careful consideration and after comparing various offers, I picked the Xiaomi Redmi 4x. You may not have heard about this phone, but it is a smartphone that delivers a lot of bang for your buck. It is the budget smartphone I needed.

Who Is Xiaomi?

“But who is Xiaomi?” you may ask. The Xiaomi Corporation is an electronics company based in China (in Beijing more specifically). They produce everything from smartphones and laptops to mobile apps and software. The first Xiaomi smartphone appeared sometime in 2011, and since then the company has been selling more and more units every year. Xiaomi smartphones have become renowned around the world, and this is no small feat. Keep in mind that there are dozens of Chinese manufacturers who produce all kinds of smartphones. For Xiaomi to get so far in so little time is extraordinary. And they managed to get ahead of the competition because their phones are reliable, well-designed, and work great. Of course, the price is significantly smaller than what Samsung or Apple would charge for a similar unit.

So, What Makes the Redmi 4X so Good?

The Xiaomi Redmi 4X was released “into the wild” in 2017, so it’s a relatively modern-generation smartphone. It has a 5-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels. It’s not Full HD, but it’s enough for people who don’t need the highest possible resolution. It comes with Android 7.1.2 (Nougat), which offers all the bells and whistles you would expect from a modern Android build. The Xiaomi Redmi 4X is powered by a potent Cortex-A53 processor, which has eight cores running at 1.4 GHz each on a Qualcomm MSM8940 Snapdragon 435 chipset. As for RAM, the phone comes with 3 or 4 GB – depending on the model you choose. As far as storage space goes, you can choose from 64GB, 32GB and 16GB. If you are interested in the camera, the phone has a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel secondary camera (for selfies). And it even has a fingerprint reader. The battery is huge: 4100 mAh. This is larger than the battery in a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus!

The Redmi 4X Compared to Flagship Devices From Samsung and Apple

The specs look great, and the price is unbeatable: $160-$300 at the time of writing. The specs are not far from those of a Samsung Galaxy J7 smartphone. The price of the Samsung, however, is almost double that of a Xiaomi 4X. While the J7 is a bit faster, it does not justify the price difference. And truth be told, you can’t company the Xiaomi with any of Apple’s devices. The iPhones are definitely faster and more stylish, but they cost 6 to 8 times as much. Again, the price difference is huge for only minor gains. The Redmi 4X can handle any task you give it and can run several large apps in multitasking mode with ease. This makes it the perfect budget smartphone. I’ve used the phone ever since I took a position with Writersdepartment and I must admit the phone moves great and, perhaps best of all, does not throw any strange errors like other Chinese phones do. Truth be told, the Xiaomi Redmi 4X is quite a stable and capable smartphone, with an excellent price tag.
