How Will AI Affect Indian EdTech

Education technology frequently referred to as EdTech, is all about deploying technology to aid in imparting education. The education industry and the student body, have never been ones to avoid new technology. This is why, over the last twenty years or so, we have seen such a widespread adoption of technology in education. The next big change in EdTech, both in India and the world at large, will come from artificial intelligence. Machine learning, for example, is a form of artificial intelligence that has already been successfully deployed in a number of use cases. EdTech will be particularly useful in the Indian context, as India’s diverse and disparate cultural/geographic landscapes have long since posed a challenge to effective education dissemination. Let us look at some of the primary benefits that AI will be able to provide EdTech.
Helping build adaptive learning solutions
Educators have always been aware of the fact that each student has their own unique learning capacity and thus, unique learning needs. Machine learning algorithms can be used to create individualized learning solutions. The algorithms do so by studying patterns in the student’s behavior, identifying their weaknesses and suggesting the proper materials to address them.
The application of deep learning
Deep learning is a field within artificial intelligence that is focused on synthetic neural networks and algorithms, based on the functioning and structure of the human mind. These algorithms analyze the student’s behavior and use that analysis to gauge their cognitive abilities. With this understanding of the student’s abilities, EdTech tools can craft learning solutions that perfectly match up to the student’s needs. These EdTech solutions can also aid in making career decisions, lifestyle decisions, and many day-to-day choices.
Freeing up time for classroom discussions
Artificial intelligence solutions can handle much of the day to day tasks that eat up educators’ time. They can take care of all the scheduling, data keeping and organizing that the educators often find taking up an inordinate amount of their time. This will help free up more time for the educators to focus on their core tasks. What’s more, artificial intelligence solutions have even managed to save much of the time that educators spend on grading.
EdTech is already more than capable of grading objective answers and artificial intelligence solutions are being developed that will be able to do the same for subjective responses, as well. EdTech solutions can even take the lectures out of the classrooms, through high-quality video lectures. In this manner, we can hope to see EdTech, particularly artificial intelligence solutions, free up the educator’s time for class discussions and doubt solving.
Developing collaborative tools
Technology has made it possible for people across different cultural and geographic boundaries to collaborate in recreational activities. Thanks to artificial intelligence tools, we will soon be able to collaborate on educational pursuits, just as well. These tools will bring the international student community much closer together, allowing them to learn from one another’s experiences.
