How to enable DND in WhatsApp
There are several ways to enable DND in WhatsApp. I’ll look at two levels, that is, WhatsApp and device levels. Let me look at this:
- On Android
- On iPhone
- WhatsApp Web and Desktop app

1] On Android
On Android, you can navigate on both device-level settings or on WhatsApp-level settings.
Device level DND
On-device settings, go to the settings app and look for Notifications & Sounds. The process is different depending on the
Look for the Do Not Disturb option or a similar one. Enable the option to mute all notifications on your device. Remember this affects all other apps.
If you want to activate the Do Not Disturb option for WhatsApp on the device level, you can go to the Notification & Apps option. The list of all notifications will show up. Click on WhatsApp and then hit on Notifications.
To mute all notifications for WhatsApp, toggle the button off next to the All WhatsApp notifications option. You will notice that all other options under the section will go off.
WhatsApp level DND
Open your WhatsApp and go to the Settings option. You can do this by tapping on the three dots on the top-right side. Go to Notifications.
Here you can customize the notifications for messages and groups. You can also choose the notification ringtones and other settings.
If you want to mute notifications for certain groups or individual chats, you can long-press the chat and select the mute icon. You can mute for 8 hours, 1 week, or always.
2] On iPhone
Like on Android, you can use device level and WhatsApp level settings as follows:
Device level DND
First, you need to access the Control Center. To do this, swipe down from the top-right corner of your device screen.
Tap on the moon-like icon to enable the Do Not Disturb mode. This makes all apps not to how or ring. You can customize these settings under the Do Not Disturb mode on the Settings app.
WhatsApp level DND
Here, you can use the same steps we used on Android. Go to the WhatsApp Settings section and customize your notifications.
You can also mute chats and groups, as we did on Android devices.
3] WhatsApp Web and Desktop app
The process to enable DND in WhatsApp on the Web and Desktop is almost the same as we did on mobile devices.
Head to the settings section at the left-bottom side of your desktop app or on the web. Click on the Notifications option and then customize the notification you want to enable DND.
On the other hand, you can use the device settings to activate the Do Not Disturb mode or its equivalent. If you want to mute all sound from your device, you can press the mute button or reduce the volume to zero.
You can make a lot of adjustments to your device to ensure you get no disturbance.
How to mute WhatsApp notifications for specific contacts?
To mute notifications for specific contacts on WhatsApp, open your app and tap on the contact name. Next, you will see the contact info. Here, tap on the Mute notifications option and select the duration you want to affect the settings. You can choose 8 hours, 1 week, or always.
Can I schedule DND on WhatsApp?
WhatsApp doesn't have an in-built option to schedule DND. However, you can leverage the device settings to achieve that. Many smart devices have ways to schedule when you want to receive notifications and when you don't want to.
How to turn off WhatsApp notifications completely?
